Diploma - Assignment Information and Regulations
The new-style Diploma Examinations consist of the following coursework:
Two essays (compulsory); One Self-Supervision Report (compulsory);
Seven essay options, from which the applicant must choose three.
To be eligible to begin the LSA Diploma Examinations, applicants
must fulfil one of the following criteria: 1. They must have passed
both LSA Certificate examinations (or a comparable course of study).
2. They must have completed Diploma class studies at the LSA (or
another comparable school). 3. They must currently be working towards
completing Diploma class studies with the LSA (or comparable school)
and have finished the Diploma course by the time they submit their
final Diploma Assignment essay.
Applications
The new-style Diploma Assignments are a series of essays and a
report undertaken at home in your own time. You should apply to
begin the Diploma Assignment using the application form. Once the
application has been processed, you will be given a Student Exam
Number and receipt, appointed an LSA tutor (who will be available
to answer your questions) and provided with a list of recommended
reading for all assignments. Please note the date the application
is processed will mark the beginning of a period in which you have
two years (twenty-four months) to complete the 5 essays and 1 report.
Submitting Work
Essays (or the Report) may be handed in at any time and in any
order. When making submissions, please send two typed copies of
each essay/report to the Examinations Secretary, and place your
Student Exam Number on all pages submitted. Please do not place
your name on any work submitted. Please include a word count at
the end of each assignment. Copies of assignments will not be returned
to you, except for the tape and notes submitted with the Report.
We suggest that, where possible, you submit one essay every 3-4
months to remain on course to meet the final submission deadline.
Marking the Assigments
Each of your essays, as well as the Report, will be marked by
two examiners. The examiners will not know your identity. You will
be notified of the result for each essay within 6 to 8 weeks of
submission. Essays that have not reached the pass mark will be accompanied
by feedback from examiners (see below). Pass Marks: Each essay/report
carries equal weight. Grades (for each essay/report) are as following:
Fail: 0-59%; Pass: 60-69%; High Pass: 70-79%; Merit: 80-89%; Distinction:
90-100%. Kindly note that all results are final. No correspondence
will be entered into. If an essay/report is failed by an examiner,
you will receive feedback (including comments and suggestions for
a re-sit) written by the head examiner. You have the choice to re-submit
the essay or (where possible) may choose a different essay option
from your original Assignment list. Either way, a new fee is required
and essays must be submitted within two years of the original application.
If by the end of the two year deadline you have not successfully
completed all Assignments, you may apply for an extension, submitting
your reasons in writing. Time extensions are rare and will be given
at the discretion of the LSA.
Gaining the Diploma
From 2006, the LSA Diploma will be awarded to those students who
have completed and passed all of the following: 1. Two compulsory
essays; 2. One Self-Supervision Report; 3. Three further essays
from a choice of seven. The Diploma will list only the subject areas
that have been successfully completed. Upon passing all the assignments,
students will be required to sign a Code of Ethics.
Cost
Each essay submission (or re-take) has a non-refundable fee of
£45*. Please make cheques payable to London School of Astrology
